TRUCK CRUSHES WOMAN TO DEATH IN RIVERS, DRIVER ARRESTED
A tragedy occurred at the Eleme junction intercession of the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway on Monday as a truck lost control and crushed a 40-year-old woman to death.
It was gathered that the truck was coming from Oyigbo, near Port Harcourt, to the city centre when the incident occurred at about 9 am.
An eye witness said the woman was on the back of a tricycle popularly known as Keke but that the rider escaped death by the whisker.
She stated, “She was inside a Keke when it happened. The truck failed to break, and before you people were running, but before the Keke could move, the truck hit the side the woman was in and divided her body. “
However, the Police said the truck tried to dodge a stationary vehicle on the road when the driver lost control and hit the woman, identified as Chioma, who was on the pavement.
The Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed this while confirming the incident to our correspondent on Monday evening.
Iringe-Koko, in a short message, further said the driver had been arrested and the Truck impounded.
The message reads, “Today, January 27, 2025, at about 0900 hours along Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, one Truck with registration number XP 633 JJ loaded with driven by a male was coming from Oyigbo heading towards Rumukrusi approaching Eleme junction in a bid to dodge a stationed vehicle lost control of the vehicle.
“The truck waged off the road and climbed a pavement, knocking down one Chioma Success, aged 40 years, who was standing, and she died on the spot.
“Copse removed and deposited at the morgue for preservation. Driver arrested. The vehicle recovered to the station for VIO inspection. The case will be transferred to the State traffic for further investigation.”
