
NDLEA SEIZES 537KG OF DRUGS, ARRESTS 46 IN YOBE
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Yobe State Command, has reported the seizure of over 537 kilograms of illegal drugs and the arrest of 46 suspects in 2024.
NDLEA Commander, Mr. Abdulazeez Ogungboye, shared this update on Tuesday in Damaturu while reviewing the agency’s activities over the past year.
The seized substances included 396.526 kg of marijuana and 141.2 kg of psychotropic drugs.
Ogungboye also noted that the agency had secured 21 convictions from 46 individuals charged, with 85 cases still pending in the Federal High Court, Damaturu Division.
Additionally, the agency provided counseling services to 219 drug-dependent individuals and conducted awareness campaigns in various communities, schools, religious organizations, and workplaces.
A mini rehabilitation center set up by the command successfully graduated five individuals after completing a three-month program. The agency also expanded its outreach by establishing five rural outposts across the state.
Ogungboye called on the Yobe State government to establish a standard rehabilitation center to replace the current facility, which only accommodates 16 inmates.
He commended the Mai Mala Buni-led administration and other collaborating agencies for their support throughout the year and reiterated the agency’s commitment to creating a drug-free society.
