ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT: FUOYE SUG SUPPORTS OPEN INVESTIGATION
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has expressed support for the decision made by the institution’s Governing Council to set up an investigative committee to probe the allegations made against Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, by Engineer Folashade Adebayo, a Deputy Director of Works and Services.
The university is currently addressing sexual harassment claims against Professor Fasina. In response, the Governing Council has formed a nine-member committee to investigate the matter.
The allegations were brought to light through audio recordings in which Professor Fasina is accused of making inappropriate advances towards Folashade.
The committee has been tasked with completing its investigation within three weeks and presenting its findings. The Governing Council plans to review the panel’s report at its next meeting, which is set for the third week of February 2025.
In a statement released by the FUOYE Students’ Union Government Led by Abiodun Olorunshola Mary on Wednesday, the SUG commended the bold step, describing it as “a demonstration of the institution’s steadfast commitment to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit for justice.”
