GUNMEN KILL POLICEMAN, ATTACK KATSINA LOCAL GOVT CHAIRMAN
Some unidentified gunmen late Tuesday attacked the residence of Maharazu Dayi, the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, resulting in the death of a police officer.
The gunmen shot Police Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, who later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Katsina, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, stated that the officer was rushed to the hospital after being shot but was confirmed dead shortly thereafter.
According to Sadiq, “Yes, the incident happened yesterday but our men were mobilised to the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
“We arrested three suspects in connection with the attack and further development will be communicated to you as an investigation is ongoing.”
It remains unclear if there were any other injured victims, but reports indicate that the security operatives successfully thwarted the attempt to break into the residence.
An eyewitness, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that the chairman and his family were inside the house at the time of the attack.
