PRES. TINUBU APPOINTS ABBA ALIYU AS REA MD
Abba Abubakar Aliyu has been named the Rural Electrification Agency’s (REA) permanent managing director by President Bola Tinubu.
The appointment is for a four-year initial term, beginning on January 23, 2025.
Prior to his promotion, Aliyu served as the agency’s managing director in March 2024.
He has worked in both the public and private sectors for more than 20 years, specialising in organisational development and energy. He has held important leadership positions in Nigeria’s water resources, transportation, and on- and off-grid power industries.
Previously, he was head of the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project; General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research, and Deputy General Manager at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC, NBET.

President Tinubu in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said he “anticipates that Aliyu will leverage his extensive expertise to further the REA’s mission of providing rural communities with reliable electric power and contributing to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and power.”
