The Nigerian Army announced that its troops from the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) successfully raided a notorious bandit camp on February 2, 2025, in Angwan Bala, within the Kambari general area of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, said in a statement on Monday that the troops, acting on reliable intelligence about the movement of suspected bandits, conducted a fighting patrol to the identified hideout.
Upon spotting the patrol team, the bandits opened fire, leading to an immediate and strong response from the troops. During the ensuing firefight, one bandit was killed, while 23 others, including 19 males and 4 females, surrendered without resistance.
“A comprehensive search of the camp led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including, 4 AK-47 rifles, 5 AK-47 rifle magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 English made pistol, 2 locally made guns, 28 cutlasses, 16 motorcycles, 48 daggers and jack knives,” he said.
The statement indicated that initial investigations showed the bandits, who originally hailed from Plateau State, had paid a local chief in Amar village N1,500,000 to set up their camp in the area.
