The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, has strongly urged motorists to stop making illegal payments to touts for unauthorized parking on bridges and other open spaces throughout Lagos State.

This directive follows reports suggesting that private car owners have been engaging in transactions with street hawkers for illegal parking privileges in various parts of the city.

Hon. Giwa stressed the importance of adhering to road signage and urban infrastructure that clearly indicate “No Parking” areas, noting that failure to comply contributes to traffic congestion and disrupts the smooth flow of vehicles.

He pointed out several notorious spots affected by illegal parking, including Ebute-Ero, Ejalonibu, Adeniji-Adele, Oyingbo, Oworonsoki, Iyana-Ipaja, and Medical Road near Computer Village, where vehicles are often parked in restricted areas, worsening traffic gridlock.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining order on Lagos roads, Hon. Giwa emphasized that the administration will take decisive action against such illegal activities. He warned motorists who attempt to justify their violations by claiming to have paid touts that they will face strict penalties.

The Lagos State Government urges all drivers to follow traffic laws and avoid supporting individuals who exploit public spaces for personal profit.
