The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has elected Dr. Agbo Major as its new National Chairman during a convention held on Wednesday.

Notable figures from the party, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, were absent from the event.

Attempts to contact Kwankwaso and Yusuf for comments on their absence were unsuccessful, as their phone lines were unreachable.

In attendance were members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NEC), and all elective office holders of the party nationwide.

The convention, which began at 9 pm on Tuesday and concluded at 4 am on Wednesday, also saw the election of several other key party officials.

Mr. Oginni Olaposi has been appointed National Secretary, while Chief Felix Chukwurah has been named Deputy National Chairman (South) and Alhaji Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North).

Other key officials elected include Mr. Adetoyese Omokanye as National Treasurer, Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam as National Publicity Secretary, and Hajia Aisha Kade as National Woman Leader.

Additionally, Chief Edward Ofomona was elected National Youth Leader, and Omolara Johnson was named National Organising Secretary, among other appointments.

Recall that the Abia High Court, on Nov. 1, 2024, in a judgment, ordered the NNPP BoT, led by the Founder and Chairman BoT, Boniface Aniebonam, to begin repositioning and reconstitution of all organs of the party from ward congress to national convention.

The court equally ordered INEC to recognize and deal with the new board of the NNPP.

Aniebonam told members that, pursuant to the judgment of the court, the board had successfully repositioned and reconstituted its ward executives up to zonal officers.
