28 MIGRANTS DISCOVERED DEAD IN LIBYA, 76 RESCUED FROM TORTURE
Investigators have found the bodies of 28 migrants near a detention center in the southern Libyan desert.
The Libyan Attorney General’s Office uncovered the mass grave north of Kufra, where many migrants had previously been held, as stated in a report on Sunday.
Security forces also rescued 76 migrants from the facility.
A gang had presumably “deprived illegal migrants of their liberty, tortured them and subjected them to cruel, degrading and inhuman treatment.”
Kufra is located in a desert region in southern Libya, close to the borders with Egypt and Sudan.
The security situation in Libya remains unstable following years of civil conflict.
Armed groups, some collaborating with state agencies, run criminal networks involved in human trafficking, systematically exploiting migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
