POLICE ARREST 47 HERDERS FOR TRESPASS, ATTEMPTED MURDER IN KEBBI
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 47 herders for criminal trespass and attempted culpable homicide after they invaded the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.
In a statement issued by the police spokesman for the state, Chief Superintendent of Police, Nafiu Abubakar, on Monday,
“the incident occurred on February 4, 2025, around 3:00 a.m. when one Abubakar Nabande, a resident of Ruggar Labana area in Birnin Kebbi, conspired with others to forcefully enter the polytechnic premises.
“Armed with cutlasses and sticks, the herders broke through the school’s fence and led over 300 cows onto the campus. They then entered the staff quarters, destroying stored hay.”
The statement further said when polytechnic staff and security personnel attempted to drive them out, “the herders allegedly turned violent.
“One staff member, Abdullahi Idris, was attacked with a cutlass, sustaining fractures on his right hand and leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, personally led a team of detectives to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Following investigations, officers arrested 47 suspects linked to the attack.”
The arrested individuals have since been charged to court for prosecution.
The Kebbi state Police Command has assured the public that they remain committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the state.
