A Lagos State Magistrate Court in Tinubu Square on Monday ordered the remand of four men at the correctional facility for allegedly stealing an SUV valued at N12m.

The accused are Wale Odunlami, Salami Isiaka, Tajudeen Yekini, and Nurudeen Ogunmola. Magistrate Mrs. Ayoku Gbajumo remanded them in custody after they pleaded not guilty to charges brought against them by the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.

They faced two counts of conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen property.

During the arraignment, prosecution counsel Morufu Animashaun told the court that the first defendant, Wale Odunlami, stole the vehicle on December 17, 2024, in Orile-Agege, Lagos. The stolen vehicle was a Grey Toyota 4Runner, Chassis No. JTEZUI7RX8K0063731, valued at N12m.

Animashaun further stated that the second to fourth defendants—Salami Isiaka, Tajudeen Yekini, and Nurudeen Ogunmola—received the stolen SUV from Odunlami, fully aware it was stolen. He also confirmed the vehicle belonged to the complainant, Jiten Khemani.

The alleged offenses contravened Sections 411, 287, and 328 (1) & (2)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following their pleas, Animashaun requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendants until the case is decided.

Defense lawyers A. O. Opade and Semire Onifade orally applied for bail, asking the court to grant bail under the most lenient terms. They argued the defendants had reliable sureties and would cooperate with the court proceedings.

Magistrate Gbajumo ruled to grant bail at N4m, with two sureties each in the same amount, who must be Lagos State residents. She also ordered that the sureties provide evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and proof of livelihood, to be verified by the prosecutor.

The magistrate remanded the defendants in the correctional centre until their bail conditions were met and adjourned the case to March 10, 2025, for mention.
