The Ogun State Police have announced the discovery of the body of 76-year-old Sikiru Olatunji, who had been reported missing several days ago, in a forest located in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

Odutola explained that the body was recovered following a thorough search conducted by local security personnel and the police.

The PPRO stated that Olatunji’s body was found lifeless and without any visible injuries, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

She said, “His corpse was found about one and a half kilometres from Wasinmi Abule Maria via Balogun Village in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

“According to police reports, the deceased was found lying face-up with his cutlass by his side. No visible signs of violence were observed on his body, leaving the cause of his death unclear.

“The discovery was made known following an extensive bush-clearing operation and a coordinated search effort by police officers from Imasayi Division, assisted by Amotekun operatives, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, the Baale, and local hunters.”

She further stated that the deceased’s family has requested his body for burial and is seeking public help to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Following the recovery, the deceased’s family requested and was granted custody of the corpse for burial.

“However, the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are soliciting useful information from the public to aid their inquiry.

“The Ogun State Police Command urges anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in ensuring a thorough investigation,” Odutola concluded.
