On Thursday, a seven-story business building in Lagos Island’s Iddo neighborhood was completely destroyed by fire.

According to Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire began at around ten in the morning.

The archival room of the building, which houses commercial banks, a bottling company, and other businesses, is where the fire started, according to Adeseye.

She said, “A fire outbreak on the first floor of a seven-storey commercial building belonging to AG Leventis, Iddo House, Iddo, via Oyingbo, Lagos, has been extinguished by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

“The building, occupied by Nigeria Bottling Company PLC, reported the fire at 10:22 am on Thursday. The fire, which started in an archival room of about 108 square metres on the first floor, was confined to its origin and successfully put out by the combined efforts of the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations of the agency.”

Although no one was killed in the event, the LSFRS chief stated that the fire was started by the room temperature rising.

“While investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, preliminary findings suggest self-ignition in the confined archival space due to rising room temperature.

“Fortunately, there are no reported casualties in an operation that has since been completed,” Adeseye stated.
