UNIZIK EXPELS STUDENT OVER ASSAULT ON LECTURER
Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious was dismissed by the administration of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, for attacking a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
According to the university’s official expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, which was signed by Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, Acting Registrar, the decision was made in response to the Student Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation that the student’s actions were a flagrant violation of Regulation 4 (SDR), one of the institution’s disciplinary regulations.
According to reports, Precious attacked the lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, in the event, which received a lot of attention after a video of it appeared online.
She was filming a TikTok video on campus when it was interrupted, which led to the attack. Public indignation and demands for disciplinary action followed the altercation.
The letter states that Precious’ expulsion is effective immediately and that she must leave the campus and return any university property that she may have.
This development sparked strong emotions and represents a decisive step by the UNIZIK administration to preserve discipline inside the school.
The letter read, “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect.
“You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
