I AM STILL FACING FOUR LAWSUITS FROM AFE BABALOLA’S FIRM – FAROTIMI
Activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi has disclosed that he is still facing four separate lawsuits in different states, all filed by members of the Aare Afe Babalola law office.
Farotimi made this revelation on Sunday during the Toyin Falola Interviews.
This comes after Aare Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University, agreed on January 27, 2025, to withdraw the legal actions against Farotimi.

Farotimi had been arrested and arraigned in two courts in Ekiti State after Babalola filed a complaint with the police commissioner in Ekiti, accusing Farotimi of defamation in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
As a result, Farotimi stood trial for alleged criminal defamation in an Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti District, and for alleged cyberbullying in the Ado Ekiti Division of the Federal High Court.
Babalola decided to drop the case following intervention from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other senior traditional rulers.
However, speaking during Sunday’s discussion on Politics, Law, and Society, Farotimi confirmed that while the police had withdrawn the criminal charges after Babalola’s petition withdrawal, he still faces four civil suits across multiple states, all filed by members of Babalola’s legal team.
“My inability to speak to certain aspects of this issue is borne out of the fact that, despite the discontinuation of the criminal proceedings, I still have four suits that I am aware of in four different states of the federation, filed by members of the same law office, against my person,” he revealed.
Farotimi emphasized that his book was not the product of idle gossip or unfounded claims. He stated that it is a thoroughly researched work that documents his personal experiences and insights into the Nigerian judicial system.
“I did not sit down in a beer parlour; I was not at an officers’ mess; I was not gossiping. It was not idle, cheap talk. I wrote a book,” he declared. “Let us deal with veracity. Anybody can go and read it and then come back and challenge me with the lie that I have told.”
