OSUN LG CRISIS: COUNCIL CHAIRMAN KILLED IN STRUGGLE BETWEEN APC, PDP FOR CONTROL
The allegedly reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government, Osun State, Mr. Remi Abass, was reportedly killed by hoodlums believed to be working for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after they took control of the council secretariat in Ikire.
Both the PDP and the APC have been disputing control over the local government, with the APC asserting that the Court of Appeal ruling last week reinstated the dismissed elected council chairmen and councillors, while the State Government claimed the election was annulled by the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
In the early hours of Monday, Abass, along with other dismissed council officials, went to the Secretariat in compliance with the court’s ruling. They reportedly entered the building when hoodlums, allegedly linked to the PDP, stormed the Secretariat to force them out.
Reports indicate that a gunfire exchange ensued, during which Abass was killed, and several others were injured. Other hoodlums also disrupted traffic on the highway, firing shots into the air, causing panic in the community and forcing motorists to take detours to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
