POLICE ARREST TWO OVER ALLEGED DEFILEMENT OF MINOR IN YOBE
The Yoba State Police Command said in a statement released in Damaturu on Monday that it had arrested two men for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Jalingo village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe.
According to the statement, the incident happened at approximately 3:30 pm on February 15 when the suspects conspired to lure the victim into a nearby bush and had sexual knowledge of her.
“The Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended the suspects who conspired and raped the 12-year-old girl, inflicting serious injuries.
“The victim received immediate medical attention, while the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Damaturu for a discreet investigation,” Abdulkarim said.
According to the spokesperson, three criminals were detained in Damaturu’s Alimari Ward in a separate operation on suspicion of possessing a disassembled motorcycle that had been stolen from the city’s Abbari neighborhood.
He claimed that the suspects had hidden the motorcycle and other objects in a nearby unfinished structure.
He stated that officers from the A Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on a tip-off, raided the building and apprehended the suspects, who allegedly admitted to stealing the motorcycle.
Abdulkarim also mentioned that the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters, working with a local vigilante group, successfully rescued a teenager from kidnappers in Dadawel.
The teenager, who had been abducted on February 12, regained freedom after a gunfight between the police and the kidnappers, which forced the criminals to flee, leaving behind the victim and other items.
The spokesperson added that the operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun.
Abdulkarim noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, praised the efforts of the command’s personnel, promising continued resolve in combating crime in the state.
