The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment launched an innovative program today, Wednesday, at the Eko FM Marquee Hall in Ikeja, aimed at addressing the growing unemployment crisis among graduates in the state.

Mrs. Olayinka Oyebangbose, representing the Permanent Secretary, delivered a welcome address at the event, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to equipping young professionals with the necessary skills to thrive in the workforce.

In her speech, Mrs. Oyebangbose outlined the ministry’s new graduate-focused initiatives, designed to boost employment opportunities in Lagos. “The ministry has designed a program to address the rate of unemployment among graduates, particularly in Lagos State. Our skills development training targets all graduates to enhance their chances of being employed in various sectors,” she stated.

A major component of the program, the Graduate Internship Placement Program, was presented as a solution to one of the key challenges facing graduates. Mrs. Oyebangbose explained that participants would undergo a rigorous three-week training, focusing on essential employability skills. The training will cover critical areas such as creative thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, communication skills, emotional intelligence, professional etiquette, and adaptability. Upon successful completion, candidates will proceed to internships with private-sector organizations for a period of three months, allowing them to gain valuable on-the-job experience.

Honourable Akinyemi Bankole, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, further motivated the participants, encouraging them to seize the opportunities presented. “This is an avenue for you to communicate, mingle, and gain confidence in yourself,”

Honourable Bankole said. “Walk to any stand here, ask about the company, be confident, and don’t be afraid. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Whatever challenges you face, do not let them stop you from striving ahead for a better future.”

Innocents Osage of Human Capital Partners, announced that over 25 recruiting organizations were present at the event, providing graduates with access to a wide range of job opportunities.

The event also featured remarks from all directors within the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.

This new initiative is part of the Lagos State government’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that graduates have the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market.
