Ikosi-Isheri, Lagos – In a landmark move to enhance security and order within the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Mayoress, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, officially inaugurated the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Task Force on Wednesday. The Passing Out Parade and inauguration ceremony took place at the Senator Adebayo Oshinowo Hall, Council Secretariat, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, marking a significant step toward grassroots security and governance.
The event underscored the Mayoress’s commitment to safety, discipline, and community development, reinforcing the need for localized security initiatives to complement existing state efforts. Addressing dignitaries, stakeholders, and members of the newly commissioned task force, Princess Bada highlighted the necessity of a structured, community-driven security force tailored to the unique needs of the LCDA.
In her keynote address, Mayoress Bada emphasized the importance of the task force in maintaining peace and order across markets, streets, and public spaces.
“For years, the people of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA have longed for a structured, community-driven security force to support existing efforts in maintaining peace and order. Today, we are not just launching a task force—we are setting a new standard for grassroots security and governance,” she stated.
The Mayoress commended the resilience of the task force members, who underwent six months of intensive training to prepare for their roles.
“The officers standing before us today are not just recruits—they are the finest and most resilient individuals who have endured six months of intense training. Many who initially joined could not withstand the intensity of the drills and discipline required. They backed out along the way. Only the strongest, the most dedicated, and the truly committed have earned the right to stand here today.”
She further stressed the importance of collaboration with the Lagos State Government, reaffirming that the task force’s establishment aligns with the broader community policing framework initiated by the state.
“We are fully aware that security is a shared responsibility. The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Mr. Governor, has been working tirelessly to strengthen security across the state. However, as a forward-thinking local government, we understand that action must begin at the grassroots. We cannot sit back and wait when the security and well-being of our people are at stake. We have taken this step not in competition, but in collaboration, to complement the state’s vision and provide immediate solutions to our peculiar challenges.”
Princess Bada emphasized that the task force would operate as partners in maintaining order, rather than aggressors.
“They will not operate as aggressors but as partners in maintaining order. Their duty is to protect, not intimidate. They will work closely with our Baales, market leaders, CDAs, youth groups, and law enforcement agencies to ensure a coordinated and lawful approach to community safety.”
The launch of the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Task Force represents a significant milestone in the council’s security strategy, setting a precedent for localized law enforcement and governance. As community stakeholders rally behind this initiative, the expectation is that this newly commissioned team will play a crucial role in fostering a safer, more organized environment for residents.
This task force has been specially trained to handle issues such as:
– Traffic management within the LCDA, particularly in high-congestion areas like Ikosi Road.
– Market and environmental enforcement, ensuring that public spaces are kept clean and free from obstructions.
– Security patrols within our communities to curb petty crimes and prevent illegal activities.
– Dispute resolution and enforcement of local policies, with referrals to Customary Court for cases requiring legal intervention.
The event was also attended by the DPOs of Ketu, Ihseri, and other distinguished guests.
The event concluded with the official passing out parade of the task force members, symbolizing their readiness to serve and protect the community.
