BREAKING: ABIOLA WON JUNE 12 ELECTION – IBB CONFIRMS
The former military head of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has finally confirmed that the late Chief Moshood Abiola won the presidential election of June 12, 1993. Babangida made this revelation in his autobiography, A Journey in Service, which was launched in Abuja on Thursday.
In the book, reviewed by former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Babangida stated that Abiola, who ran for president under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), had secured both the majority of votes and the necessary geographical spread to become president.
Babangida described the annulment of the June 12 election as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
“There was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He satisfied all the requirements,” he said.
However, he expressed satisfaction that President Muhammadu Buhari recognized Abiola’s victory and posthumously awarded him the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), the highest national honor reserved for presidents.
