TINUBU’S REFORMS ARE RESETTING NIGERIA – AKUME

Read Time:3 Minute, 29 Second

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu has put the country back on the right track with his economic reforms.

Akume disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at the unveiling of the book In Brotherhood We Stand: The Nigerian National Anthem Beyond Melody,
written by Osere Daniel.

While praising the author, the SGF, who was represented by his aide, Prof. Babatunde Bernard, stated that the book would help bridge the gap in public understanding of the need for unity in diversity and Nigerians’ collective commitment to nation-building.

He said, “As a proud citizen, I wish to assure Nigerians, especially our youth, that the nation is on track. I have confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to turn the tide and position the country on the path to prosperity.

“In brotherhood, we stand. No matter the odds, together, we will overcome them. Let me affirm that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting, collaborating with, and partnering with stakeholders to ensure Nigerians feel valued in their own country.

“I believe you are aware that, for the first time, an indigene of the FCT has been appointed as a minister. This aligns with the need for inclusivity for all. We assure you that the President remains steadfast in this commitment.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who was represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Federal Character Committee in the lower chamber, Dr. Adebayo Adepoju, commended Tinubu’s bold decision to revert to the old national anthem, stating that it would enhance civic responsibility towards nation-building.

“This is a period of increased agitation from various parts of the country. However, we must all contribute to the progress of Nigeria, as it is our collective responsibility to keep this nation united. Nigeria is an extraordinary country, and our people have excelled both locally and globally in various fields.

“We have witnessed the brilliance of Nigerians in science and technology. Despite these achievements, our country is often misrepresented and reduced to a single narrative of challenges, corruption, and strife. This is why I commend President Bola Tinubu’s foresight and courage in restoring the national anthem. His decision goes beyond symbolism.

“It is a philosophy and a call to action for every Nigerian. Our young people must be taught the history of our nation and the sacrifices of those who came before us. This is why the House of Representatives fully supports the reintroduction of history as a core subject in our schools,” he explained.

Vice President Kashim Shettima also praised the reintroduction of the old anthem, stating that it resonates with the message of unity and patriotism.

The former Borno governor was represented at the event by former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo.

He said, “We are all products of social engineering. No society thrives by accident. Each is deliberately shaped through a value system that defines its identity and vision.

“The reinstatement of our old national anthem is a reaffirmation of the ideals that have guided this country. President Bola Tinubu has always stood for the message of this anthem—the message of unity, justice, and service.”

Also speaking, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who was represented by the Speaker’s wife, Hajia Fatima Abbas, noted that the national anthem is not just a song but a reflection of the country’s history, struggles, and aspirations.

While appreciating the turnout of dignitaries, the author emphasised that he was motivated to write the book to embed the new anthem in Nigerians’ consciousness and inspire them to become better citizens.

According to him, Nigerians must embrace collective responsibility and shared values.

He said, The challenges of the North, whether insecurity or otherwise, are our collective responsibility. Similarly, we cannot say that the issues in the South-East do not concern other regions of the country.

“We need to address these challenges because if we do not, it is only a matter of time before they escalate. We are all connected in one way or another. Even though our languages may differ, in brotherhood, we stand.”
