OFFICIALS OF TRADITIONAL MEDICINE BOARD, NSCDC TASKFORCE ENFORCE REGULATIONS IN LAGOS MAINLAND
In response to the persistent noncompliance of some Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) in the State, the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB), in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), carried out an enforcement exercise in the Mainland axis, sealing six facilities operating without proper regularisation of practice and with outdated documents.
The enforcement action followed multiple notifications and warnings issued to the affected facilities, directing them to approach the Board for registration and compliance with the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law 2015.
Speaking on the exercise, the Registrar, LSTMB, Prince Babatunde Adele, emphasised that the State Government will not tolerate continued disregard for regulatory requirements, stressing that practitioners must comply with the law to ensure public safety and professional accountability.
He further noted that the Board has consistently engaged in awareness campaigns through print media and radio jingles to educate practitioners on the need for proper registration, particularly in light of the rising cases of quackery in the Traditional, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine sectors.
The Registrar warned that erring practitioners will face penalties in accordance with the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law 2015, adding that the Board remains committed to safeguarding public health by enforcing strict compliance with regulatory provisions.
He assured that the enforcement action will be sustained and monitored closely to deter further violations, as the State Government continues to uphold high standards in the practice of traditional medicine.
