As part of preparations to commence operations at Ogun State Gateway International Airport, the state government has initiated a recruitment drive within the civil service to fill 14 critical roles necessary for aerodrome operations.

This was detailed in an internal memo addressed to key government officials, dated February 19, 2025, and obtained by our reporter on Saturday.

The document outlines the recruitment of personnel for 14 positions, including medical staff, drivers, human resources, operations, and ground handling, underscoring the government’s commitment to making the airport functional before the end of 2025.

Governor Dapo Abiodun began construction of the airport in Ikenne Local Government Area in 2021, intending it to serve as an alternative to Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

Last year, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to completing and inaugurating the facility, envisioning it as an economic hub with the potential to create over 25,000 jobs.

The circular, signed by Permanent Secretary Oladipupo Ogunfowora on behalf of the Head of Service, emphasizes that competence will be a primary criterion in the selection process.

The circular, obtained by our correspondent, states: “I wish to inform you that the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the staffing of the Gateway International Airport with competent, self-motivated, and high-quality personnel from within the state civil service to support the operations, maintenance, and management of the airport.

“Interested candidates are directed to submit their applications through the normal departmental channel to their agencies for onward transmission to the Bureau of Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service, on or before Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

“All applications must be accompanied by copies of relevant documents, including credentials, curriculum vitae (CV), letter of appointment, letter of confirmation of appointment, letter of last promotion, and any other relevant documents. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an oral interview.”

When reached for confirmation, the Governor’s Special Adviser, Kayode Akinmade, affirmed to our correspondent that the document was issued by the government.
