EFCC OPERATIVES COURT AS YAHAYA BELLO’S TRIAL RESUMES IN ABUJA
As the trial of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello on alleged fraud charges opened Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja was staffed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission agents.
Armed with a variety of firearms, the agents used one of their cars to block a main thoroughfare that led to the court building.
The security personnel have completely deployed dogs and other weapons at the court entry in addition to firearms.
Lawyers who were uneasy with the intimidating presence of EFCC agents, particularly being subjected to needless checks, were muttering out loud at the time of this report, wondering what had led to the court’s takeover.
Remember that on Friday, December 13, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Bello N500 million bail with two sureties in an equivalent amount.
This came after the former governor entered a not guilty plea to the 19 counts that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had filed against him.
