The Faculty of Law at Abia State University, currently situated in Umuahia, is set to be relocated to the institution’s main campus in Uturu by June 2025.

Governor Alex Otti had initially directed the relocation in November 2024, but the immediate implementation faced resistance from some law students and their parents, who expressed concerns over the abrupt nature of the move.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia on Monday, Commissioner for Information Okey Kanu announced that the relocation would commence in June. He explained that logistical challenges, accreditation issues, and student examinations had previously hindered the move, necessitating a delay.

Kanu further noted that the government decided to postpone the relocation after considering complaints from students and citizens regarding potential inconveniences.

The administration aimed to ensure that necessary procedures and infrastructure upgrades were in place before executing the move.

In addition, Kanu revealed that primary and junior secondary students are no longer required to pay any fees, including PTA and sports fees.

To prevent unauthorized charges, school heads now receive a monthly imprest from the government.
