ALLEGED ASSAULT: COURT POSTPONES PORTABLE’S CASE
The case against well-known singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has been postponed by an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court until March 26 in order to allow the prosecution to combine his accusations with those of his employees.
The prosecution informed the court that it would be a waste of time to hear Portable’s and his employees’ cases separately when the case against the artist began on Wednesday following his initial arraignment on February 20.
Senior State Counsel Mr. Timileyin Oredein informed the court that before the trial could start, Portable’s case and its companion matter needed to be combined.
The musician and nine of his employees were previously arraigned on similar accusations on February 6th, Oredein informed the court.
He claimed that a separate trial for each defendant would be a waste of time.
Oredein requested that the court set a deadline for the charges to be combined and replaced.
Five charges were brought against Portable and his employees at their arraignment: conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction while carrying a gun and cutlasses, and behavior likely to provoke a breach of the peace.
In addition, they were charged with assaulting three Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development officials in Ogun State.
