
NIGERIA POLICE ELIMINATES NOTORIOUS KIDNAP GANG IN AKWA-IBOM
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has eliminated members of a notorious kidnapping gang that has been causing havoc in various parts of the state.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, revealing that the gang was behind most of the kidnapping incidents in Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and nearby areas.
“Acting on credible intelligence, a joint tactical team stormed multiple criminal hideouts at Ikpe Annang, Ikpe Ikot Akpan, and Ikot Inyang in Essien Udim Local Government Area.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.
“The officers responded swiftly, engaging them in a gun duel. At the end of the operation, all five suspects sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. One later died while receiving treatment,” John said.
She claims that among the defendants, the police found one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, one pump-action shotgun, and a locally manufactured dane pistol.
A bag of crayfish, a tambourine, an electric power amplifier, a conga drum, three GSM button phones, and N3,130,600 in cash were among the other goods found.
The police image creator said that Akwa Ibom is no longer a safe haven for illicit activity and advised criminals to avoid the state.
Baba Azare, the state’s commissioner of police, praised the officers for their courage and asked citizens to report suspicious activity, cooperate with security forces, and maintain vigilance.
