
POLICE ARREST MAN OVER ALLEGED MURDER OF WIFE IN A’IBOM
The 42-year-old Victor Okoh has been taken into custody by Akwa Ibom State Police Command agents in relation to the horrific killing of his 38-year-old wife, Victoria Okoh, at their home in the state’s Oron Local Government Area.
In a statement released Monday in Uyo, DSP Timfon John, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the arrest.
According to John, the arrest came after local residents who were worried made a distress call.
The police chief said that the suspect, who was hiding under the ceiling to avoid arrest, was apprehended when the officers raided the building at around five in the morning.
He went on to say that additional research showed he dated the deceased due to accusations of adultery.
According to a spokesman for the Command, the deceased’s body has been placed in the morgue of the general hospital in Oron LGA for autopsy while the inquiry is still underway.
The statement reads in par, t”At about 05:20hrs, operatives of the Command swiftly responded to a distress call from concerned residents. On arrival at the scene, officers discovered the mutilated body of the deceased lying outside the house she shared with her husband.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity.
“Further reports indicated that the suspect was hiding in the ceiling of the house in an attempt to evade arrest. The operatives tactically secured the building, forced entry, and successfully apprehended him.
“The machete used in committing the crime was recovered by the police. The corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.”
Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police, condemned the incident and promised the public that justice will be served.
In addition to warning against all types of domestic violence and urging citizens to use legal ways of dispute resolution instead of violence, the commissioner emphasized that the command will continue to be dedicated to protecting the protection of lives.
