AMERICAN DOG SHOOTS OWNER IN BED

Read Time:1 Minute, 10 Second

Police reported on Wednesday that an American dog owner was shot by his pet after the animal got on his bed and activated a loaded firearm.

The man from Memphis, Tennessee, was shot early on Monday morning when he was sleeping next to his female partner. He managed to flee with a minor wound to his left thigh that required medical attention.

The dog — a year-old pit bull named Oreo — “got his paw stuck in the trigger guard and ended up hitting the trigger,” a police incident report said.

The incident was reported as “accidental injury,” with no information provided regarding the sort of weapon used.

Animals shooting people is uncommon in the US, despite the country’s high rate of gun violence.

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed by a German shepherd dog in Kansas two years ago when the dog stepped on a hunting rifle.

In 2018, a 51-year-old Iowan man’s pit bull-Lab mix shot him in the leg.

The unnamed girlfriend of the Tennessee victim was quoted by local TV station Fox 13 Memphis as stating that she was asleep when the gun went off.

“The dog is a playful dog, and he likes to jump around and stuff like that and it just went off,” she reportedly said.

Her lesson from the incident, “Keep the safety on or use a trigger lock.”
