NNAMDI KANU’S TRIAL SET TO RESUME MARCH 21

Read Time:1 Minute, 26 Second

On Friday, March 21, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has set a trial date for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

After the case file was sent to Justice Omotosho due to a reassignment, this decision was verified on Wednesday.

Kanu has been charged by the Federal Government with seven counts of terrorism.

After the previous judge overseeing the case, Justice Binta Nyako, recused herself, Justice Omotosho was given the case.

On September 24, 2024, Justice Nyako recused himself after Kanu and his attorneys accused him of bias and asked that the case be moved to a different judge.

But at first, the Federal High Court Chief Judge sent the case back to Justice Nyako, requiring Kanu and his attorneys to submit a formal application in order for the recusal to be granted.

Kanu’s case was postponed sine die (indefinitely) because he refused to appear before Justice Nyako in the upcoming proceedings.

Kanu’s legal team wrote to Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, on February 20, 2025, requesting her help.

They asked that the case be moved to the Southeast or reassigned to a different judge in the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 8, Kanu’s lead attorney, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed that they had received two different letters on the case.

He claimed to have received two letters from the CJN and Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, advising them that the case had been transferred to a different Federal High Court judge.

The case will now be presided over by Justice Omotosho, and on March 21, 2025, proceedings are scheduled to continue.
