NNPC DEBUNKS EXPLOSION RUMORS AT PORT HARCOURT REFINERY
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has refuted claims that a fire outbreak gutted the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State.
Earlier, a video surfaced online showing flames rising from a distance, accompanied by the caption, “Port Harcourt Refinery now. Pray for Rivers.” This sparked widespread speculation of an explosion at the facility.
However, in an official statement released on Tuesday, NNPC clarified that the incident was merely a flare event, which has been fully contained. The company assured that there was no explosion, danger, or health risk to staff, nearby communities, or the environment.
NNPC further urged the public and media to disregard any false reports suggesting an explosion at the refinery.
