
NSCDC, FCT COURT TO FAST-TRACK PROSECUTION OF SUSPECTED VANDALS
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Federal Capital Territory Command is enhancing its collaboration with the FCT Magistrate Court to expedite the prosecution of suspects involved in the vandalism of critical national infrastructure.
This move aims to address the rising number of arrests related to the sabotage of government assets within the FCT.
This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s Spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, on Wednesday.
During a courtesy visit to the FCT Chief Magistrate, Elizabeth Wonni on Tuesday, the FCT Commandant of NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, emphasised the importance of strengthening the partnership to ensure quicker dispensation of justice.
Odumosu commended Woni for her consistent support and prompt responses to NSCDC applications, which have significantly aided the swift processing of cases and helped alleviate overcrowding in the Corps’ detention facilities.
The commandant pointed out that the ongoing crackdown on vandals has led to a growing number of arrests.
He stressed the need for continued cooperation with the Magistrate Court to prevent overstretched detention facilities and to simplify legal procedures for the Corps.
The Commandant assured Wonni of the NSCDC’s commitment to securing and protecting court facilities at all times.
“Our crackdown on Vandals of Critical infrastructure and Assets in the FCT has led to a growing number of arrests of saboteurs of government efforts in the provision of democratic dividends.
“Your timely responses to our filed applications and cases have in no small measure helped us to decongest our detention facility and guide against infringements on fundamental human rights of suspects,” the Commandant said.
In response, the Chief Magistrate acknowledged the NSCDC’s role in removing criminal elements from the capital and expressed her readiness, along with her colleagues, to support the Corps in fulfilling its mandate.
She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that cases from the NSCDC continue to receive quick attention and commended the professionalism of the NSCDC officers working with the court.
