BREAKING: SENATE APPROVES EMERGENCY RULE IN RIVERS, CALLS FOR MEDIATION
Invoking its constitutional authority under the 1999 amendment, the Senate has ratified President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, just like the House of Representatives.
The decision gives President Tinubu the power to impose emergency measures and requires that the situation be reviewed at any point in time, but no later than six months.
A joint committee of both houses has also been established by the National Assembly in accordance with the Constitution to supervise the management of activities in Rivers State during the emergency.
In order to assist in resolving the political turmoil in the state, the Senate has also decided to form a mediation group made up of distinguished Nigerians.
