UPDATE: COMMUTERS STRANDED AS FALLEN CONTAINERS PARALYSE MOVEMENT ON LAGOS-IBADAN ROAD

On Thursday afternoon, two collapsed containers blocked the always congested Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leaving commuters trapped as they left Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub.

Both incidents occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; the first occurred at 10:50 am on the well-known Kara Bridge, while the second occurred at 2 pm on the Long Bridge.

Due to the occurrences, hundreds of vehicles were seen to be at a standstill.

As of the time this story was filed, the traffic jam had spread rearward to the Alapere neighborhood and approached the well-known Otedola Bridge.

Florence Okpe, the spokeswoman for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, informed reporters that clearance operations have been started by command officers and representatives from sister agencies.

No casualties were reported, she said, adding that first responders are present to enforce traffic regulations and defuse the situation.
