The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has cautioned residents against paying ILERA EKO Health Insurance premiums into private bank accounts.

Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, emphasized in Alausa, Ikeja, that the agency operates a zero-cash policy. Any request for payment into an agent’s personal account, except the designated Lagos State Health Fund (LASHEF) account, is fraudulent and illegal.

Addressing a circulating WhatsApp message claiming the agency is not activating enrollees and cannot specify activation times, Dr. Zamba dismissed it as false and misleading.

She clarified that LASHMA begins activating enrollees on the 26th of each month after the premium payment deadline on the 25th. Since its full operations began in 2020, the agency has consistently activated enrollees every month. She urged residents to ignore the false message, which aims to deceive and misappropriate funds.

Investigations revealed that individuals who collect premiums directly from residents often delay or fail to remit payments to the state government. Payments not recorded or linked to a policy number by LASHMA are not activated until verified.

Dr. Zamba reiterated that ILERA EKO premiums should only be paid through government-approved channels, including POS terminals at LASHMA offices and designated kiosks across the state.

She advised residents to use self-payment options via banks, e-bills, the LASHMA website (www.lashma.com), USSD code 6700006#, or platforms like Quickteller.

When making payments, residents should include their policy number and name to ensure proper confirmation and record matching.

She urged residents to report any individual demanding payment into a personal account or spreading misleading messages about ILERA EKO to the agency.

Residents can contact LASHMA via 24/7 customer service lines at 0800-ILERAEKO (0800-45372356) or 0800-ASKLASHMA (0800-275527462). WhatsApp inquiries can be sent to 07045358275 or 07046160051. She advised residents to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraud.

Dr. Zamba disclosed that previous offenders have been arrested and handed over to law enforcement. Any other individuals spreading false messages will also face legal action.

She assured residents that LASHMA remains committed to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services to all, regardless of socio-economic status.
