
SANWO-OLU RESTATES COMMITMENT TO SPORTS, AS LAGOS HOSTS MAIDEN SOUTH-WEST GAMES
Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed the state’s preparedness to host the inaugural South-West Games.
Scheduled from March 26 to 28, the event will bring together athletes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti to compete in various sports at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Rowe Park, and Yaba College of Education.
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured organizers and participants that Lagos State would provide secure and well-equipped facilities for the tournament.
He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the South-West Games 2025 Committee, led by its President, Dr. Olanrewaju Alfred, at the Lagos House, Marina, where he also received a customized jersey.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the games would promote social inclusion, youth engagement, and healthy competition while fostering creativity among young people.
He reiterated Lagos’ commitment to creating an enabling environment for youth development, social integration, and community growth through sports.
The governor praised the initiative behind the South-West Games and pledged the state’s full support for the event.
Dr. Olanrewaju Alfred, President of the South-West Games 2025 Committee, lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and highlighted the games as a platform for youth empowerment and development.
Accompanied by his team, Alfred also commended the governor’s achievements across key sectors and the provision of necessary sports infrastructure for the tournament.
He explained that their visit aimed to formally inform Governor Sanwo-Olu about the event in his capacity as Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum.
Lagos State Sports Commission Director General, Lekan Fatodu, added that the games would serve as an opportunity to discover and nurture young sporting talents.
