AKWA IBOM PROVIDES FREE TICKETS FOR SUPER EAGLES VS ZIMBABWE MATCH
The Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe is scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, and the Akwa Ibom State Government has declared free admission.
Governor Umo Eno bought all 30,000 tickets to rally support for the national team, according to a statement released on Monday by Paul Bassey, the state’s commissioner for sports.
“In line with his determination and promise to mobilise support for the victory of the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Warriors of Zimbabwe, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has purchased 30,000 tickets for football fans and supporters ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualification match scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo,” Bassey said.
He listed various distribution centres for the free tickets, including all radio stations, De Venus Bar and Restaurant on Stadium Road, Uyo Township Stadium, Ibom Plaza, and previous ticket sales outlets.
The commissioner emphasised that no tickets would be sold or distributed at the stadium, urging fans to secure theirs in advance. He also warned that only ticket holders would be granted entry and advised fans to adhere to seating arrangements and security guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation has pledged to distribute Super Eagles jerseys to the first 500 fans who obtain tickets for the game.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, in a statement on Monday, urged supporters to attend in large numbers and wear Nigeria’s national colours to create a vibrant atmosphere.
Sanusi said, “We are calling on Nigerians to come out in large numbers to support the Super Eagles on Tuesday. The team needs the support. When we played Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, the Rwandans filled up the Amahoro Stadium to its full capacity. Let our people also come out in throngs and cheer the Eagles.”
The Super Eagles are currently struggling in the qualifiers, with six points from five matches, placing them fourth in their group.
Their sole victory in the campaign came against Rwanda on Friday.
