UPDATE: IPOB DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN ORSU, OTHER COMMUNITY ATTACKS
The violence that took place in Orsu and other areas in Imo and Anambra States has been emphatically rejected by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
IPOB denied allegations linking its Eastern Security Network (ESN) to illegal activity in Orsu in a statement released by Comrade Emma Powerful, the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary.
IPOB reaffirmed that it has continuously disassociated itself from any people or organizations acting in the region under false pretenses since 2021.
IPOB claimed that a number of criminal elements falsely claimed allegiance to IPOB and ESN while committing crimes after its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested and subjected to extraordinary rendition in 2021.
The group clarified it that these people were not affiliated with IPOB or ESN and that their acts were intended to damage the Biafra movement’s reputation.
According to the statement, IPOB leaders have regularly condemned these criminals and alerted communities about their actions via social media and Radio Biafra. Additionally, IPOB charged that some organizations were disseminating false information to undermine the movement and its security branch, ESN.
Through ESN activities, IPOB underlined its dedication to protecting Igbo communities and guaranteeing their safety. The group emphasized that ESN agents prioritize safeguarding the area from outside dangers rather than attacking or intimidating local residents.
IPOB reaffirmed its commitment to defending Igbo communities and ensuring their security through ESN operations. The group stressed that ESN operatives do not attack or terrorize local communities but rather focus on protecting the region from external threats.
Furthermore, IPOB urged community leaders and the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could be used to undermine the movement’s legitimate struggle. It also called on security agencies to transparently address the security challenges in the region.
IPOB advised the public to remain vigilant and not fall for propaganda aimed at discrediting its activities. It reaffirmed its dedication to the peaceful agitation for Biafra’s self-determination and dismissed any allegations linking IPOB or ESN to acts of violence.
