ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: YOLANDA SALDIVAR DENIED PAROLE 30 YEARS AFTER MURDERING SELENA
Thursday, a Texas board rejected early release to Yolanda Saldívar, who killed Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez in 1995.
Saldívar was given a life sentence; however, after 30 years, he was eligible for parole.
Her ongoing threat to public safety was the reason the three-member board rejected her plea. She has until March 2030 to reapply.
On March 31, 1995, Selena, at 23 years old, was shot at a hotel in Corpus Christi by Yolanda Saldívar, who was the manager of her boutiques and the founder of her fan club.
Saldívar was accused of embezzling money from Selena’s businesses, which led to the murder.
Known as the “Queen of Tejano,” Selena took home a Grammy in the early 1990s.
Her posthumous album Dreaming of You topped the charts, and her legacy was cemented in the 1997 film Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez.
