LABOURER HACKS 60-YEAR-OLD EMPLOYER TO DEATH IN ONDO
A labourer (name withheld) is accused of macheting and killing his 60-year-old employer, Mrs. Adelugba, at a farm settlement in Laoso, Laje Camp, within the Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Reports indicate that the victim, a well-known kola nut farmer in the community, had hired the labourer, who lived with her and was responsible for managing her three farms in the settlement.
The deceased farmer, who had recently relocated to her new home at Miracle Land, FFF, Ondo, hired the labourer to live with her after her only daughter moved to Abuja with her husband.
A source revealed that the woman discovered the labourer stealing kola nuts from the farm.
She confronted him and threatened to expose him, as stealing is strictly forbidden by the community’s customs, with the penalty of banishment for those caught.
The source added that the suspect begged for forgiveness and promised to repay the stolen kola nuts with his wages at the end of the year, a proposal which the woman accepted.
However, the labourer, who had been monitoring his employer’s movements, attacked her last Saturday and macheted her to death.
After killing the woman, the suspect covered her remains with leaves before fleeing to the village, but he was apprehended by residents of the community.
The suspect, who confessed to the killing, said the deceased had been pressuring him over the theft incident on the farm, which led him to decide to kill her.
He later led the community leaders to the scene of the incident, where Mrs Adelugba’s remains were discovered and transported to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) mortuary.
A police source confirmed that the suspect was initially detained at the Fagun Police Division before being transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for further investigation.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
