LASIEC DENIES 2025 LOCAL GOVT ELECTION TIMETABLE CIRCULATING ONLINE
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has denied reports claiming it released an official timetable for the 2025 Local Government elections, describing such information as false.
In a statement on Friday, LASIEC clarified that the widely circulated election notice did not come from the Commission and urged political parties, stakeholders, and the public to ignore the unauthorized document.
The clarification follows online reports alleging that LASIEC had scheduled the elections for July 19, 2025.
LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), emphasized that the Commission operates strictly within legal frameworks, and any official announcement will be made following due process.
“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) that a fake 2025 Notice of Elections is currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, purportedly issued by the Commission,” she stated.
“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that such a Notice of Election did not emanate from the Commission and hereby advice Citizens, in particular, Political Parties and all other Critical Stakeholders to disregard such publications.
“The Commission hereby reiterates that the conduct of Local Government Election in Lagos State is a process that is guided by laws and at the appropriate time as stipulated by law, the notice of election shall be published in the various newspapers,” she added.
