SEVEN DEAD, FOUR INJURED IN MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH ON LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY (PHOTOS)

A devastating multi-vehicle crash involving two fuel tankers and a commercial transport bus claimed seven lives and left four others injured early Saturday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near NIPCO Filling Station, Ibafo.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through its RS2HQ Special Intervention Patrol Team, swiftly responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. The team received the alert at 7:05 a.m. and arrived at the scene by 7:08 a.m., achieving a commendable three-minute response time.

Preliminary investigations list speed violation and loss of concentration as probable causes of the crash, which involved 15 people—13 males and 2 females. Among them, six males and one female were confirmed dead, while four others (two males and two females) sustained varying degrees of injuries.

  • MACK Tanker (White) – Reg No: SEY 363 YY
  • FAW Tanker (White) – Reg No: T 2900 LA
  • Volkswagen Transporter Bus (Yellow) – Reg No: LSD 180 YA

The injured victims were rushed to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Centre Hospital, Ibafo, for urgent medical care. The deceased were transported to Idera Hospital Morgue in Sagamu. The involved vehicles were cleared from the road to restore traffic flow, with the Nigeria Police (MTD Ibafo) taking custody of the wreckage and recovered items.

FRSC personnel remain on-site managing the traffic situation. Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and reiterated calls for motorists to obey speed limits, avoid reckless driving, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
