The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack on Takkau Village in Gongono District, Tangaza Local Government Area, by suspected members of the Lakurawa bandit group.
Intelligence reports indicate that the attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. on April 7, 2025, when approximately thirty armed bandits on motorcycles stormed the village. The attackers fired shots into the air, triggering widespread panic and forcing residents to flee for safety.
During the chaos, the assailants also rustled an unknown number of livestock that were left behind by the fleeing villagers.
A joint security task force quickly responded to a distress call and initiated a search-and-rescue operation. Some of the stolen livestock were recovered, and efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
Authorities have reassured the community of increased surveillance and continued efforts to track down the bandits in order to restore peace to the area.
