TENSION IN BENUE COMMUNITY AS GUNMEN KILL THREE FISHERWOMEN

Read Time:59 Second

Gunmen have murdered three female fishermen in Tse Ijim, near Anyiin, Ukember Agya, Gaambetiev, in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The three Tiv women were ambushed and killed by suspected Jukun militia while returning from the market along the Anyiin-Wukari road, which is located on the Benue State side.

An eyewitness, Teryila Abuur, confirmed  that the women were attacked and killed by the gunmen as they made their way home.

Logo LGA in Benue State borders Wukari LGA in Taraba State, an area that has been a hotspot for long-standing tensions between Tiv and Jukun communities for over three decades.

The attack occurred around 4 p.m. on Monday, sparking widespread fear in the farming communities of Gaambetiev, as reported by local leader Chief Iorbee Fate.

There are concerns that this incident could further escalate tensions and provoke fresh violence between the Tiv and Jukun tribes in the border areas of Wukari and Logo LGAs.

At the time of the report, the bodies of the three women had been taken to the Anyiin Health Centre. The police area command stated it had not yet received a report about the incident.
