FUOYE DECLARES VC INNOCENT OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS
Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the vice chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, has been cleared by the governing council of the sexual harassment charges made against him by a senior lecturer.
This was said in a statement released on Wednesday in Oye-Ekiti by Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, the university registrar and council secretary.
Within seven days, the council ordered the accuser, Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, to send a letter of apology to the council.
According to NAN, the university council established a committee in February to look into the sexual harassment claims made by Adebayo against the VC. The FUOYE chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has been pushing for a probe into the claims.
“The council asked the vice chancellor to excuse himself from the meeting to ensure free and open deliberation on the findings of the committee set up to look into the case.
“The alleged audio recordings were listened to by all council members with the assistance of a translator, and it was discussed exhaustively.
“Members held that there was no sexual harassment, which equally confirms the earlier investigation by the Nigerian police, where Adebayo made a statement that she was not sexually harassed,” the council said.
He claimed that the Council also concurred that the tape was a means of extorting Fasina into confirming Adebayo as the legitimate Director of Works and Services, something he is not authorized to do.

“Council directed that Adebayo be warned for bringing the name of the university to disrepute. She is directed to write a letter of apology to the council within seven days”.
The council voiced concerns about how the university’s administration handled the situation, giving Adebayo preferential treatment by delaying her promotion until 2015 in 2024.
In order to prevent future irregularities in the advancement of university employees, the council cautioned management to refrain from such actions.
The management was instructed by the council to examine Adebayo’s backdated promotion.
Additionally, the Council stated that an advertisement would be made for the vacant positions of Director of Works and Services and Director of Physical Planning at the university.
