POLICE NAB NINE IN CONNECTION WITH KILLING OF SEPTUAGENARIAN IN OYO
The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of at least nine individuals in connection with the murder of a septuagenarian and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira in a community within the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, and made available on Thursday morning.
According to Osifeso, the suspects were apprehended by police operatives for their alleged involvement in an attack on Aagba community, located in Surulere Local Government Area.
He stated that the attack led to the death of Madam Rachael Bamidele, a woman in her seventies, and caused many residents to flee the area.
The incident was reportedly carried out by individuals from a nearby community, allegedly due to a long-standing land dispute.
Osifeso noted that the violence, which included arson, looting, and the destruction of property, appeared to be a coordinated effort targeting people involved in an ongoing land litigation.
The attack occurred on April 5, 2025.
Further investigation by the command resulted in the arrest of Salawudeen Ismaila, a 33-year-old resident of the neighboring Oko community, along with eight other suspects.
He said, “The Oyo State Police Command has responded to the April 5, 2025, attack on Aagba Community, Surulere Local Government Area.
“The attack resulted in nine houses being razed and properties worth millions of Naira being looted or destroyed.
“The burning, looting, and destruction of properties appear to have been calculated and systematically carried out, targeting individuals involved in an ongoing civil litigation over the disputed land.
