TWO PETROL TANKERS LOSE CONTROL, FLIP OVER IN OYO

In Oyo State, two tankers carrying gasoline, commonly known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), have capsized in the past 24 hours.

Both events were place in Ogbomoso and Oyo.

Ogbomoso’s Oke-Baby neighborhood was the scene of the first event, while Oyo’s Offa-Metta neighborhood was the scene of the second.

On Wednesday, the two incidents took place.

Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the general manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, acknowledged the two incidences in a statement on Thursday.

“On Wednesday, 9th April, 2025 at exactly 08:02hrs we were called by running caller to petrol tanker accident at Oke baby area Ogbomosho/ Ilorin express Road.

“On arrival we met a DAF trailer registration No JJN 529 XB Plateau loaded with 50,000 liters of PMS capacity that has lost control and swerved off the road, content gushing out, instantly we blanket the area with foam compound to neutralize the flammability of the spilled contents from attracting unnecessary naked fire,” he said.

He also confirmed the accident that occured in Oyo town.

He said, “This incident was reported to the station precisely at 07.40. The agency firefighters led by ACFS Tijani was immediately deployed to the scene of incident.

“On getting to the scene, firemen met a DAF trailer tanker loaded with 40, 000 litres of DPK capacity, lost control whilst on motion and swerved off the road.

“The content gushing out. The crew swung into action by applying chemical foam compound to neutralize and blanket the content as to avoid any likely fire hazards.

“The OIC sensitizing the large numbers of public who were present, scooping the the product as a way to avert fatal fire incident.
CFS Adeduntan and Federal Fire Service were in attendance”.
