The Kaduna State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended three individuals suspected of vandalizing and stealing railway sleepers.

During a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, the Commandant, Muhammadu Dansadau—represented by Assistant Commandant of Corps Nasir Bello Jimoh, head of the Anti-vandal Unit—revealed that the arrests were based on actionable intelligence.

The suspects were caught on March 20, 2025, at about 4:50 a.m. while transporting 61 stolen railway sleepers hidden under 27 bags of sawdust in a J5 bus with the registration number FTA 880 XA. The items were being moved along Yakowa Way in Kaduna and were reportedly en route to Katsina State.

The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover more details.

In a related incident, on April 11, 2025, a joint operation between the NSCDC and Sector 4 of Fansan Yamma led to the arrest of 25-year-old Umar Ibrahim in Katari Town, Kachia Local Government Area. He was found with vandalized power infrastructure components, including 150kg of aluminum high-tension cables and 200kg of iron rod scrap meters, being transported in a green Golf vehicle.

Ibrahim is also in custody, with further investigations underway.
