A man identified as Akinyele, tragically collapsed and died on Saturday while celebrating his wife’s 60th birthday at an event centre in the Egbeda area of Lagos State.
A viral video circulating online and viewed by our correspondent on Sunday captured the harrowing moment.
In the footage, Akinyele was addressing guests on stage when he suddenly collapsed.
According to eyewitnesses, just moments before the incident, he had called his wife over and quietly asked for water.
When she didn’t respond immediately, he gestured again to emphasize his need. Seconds later, he slumped to the ground.
Efforts to revive him at the venue proved unsuccessful, and he was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful, as spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin had not responded to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
