In the state’s Awka South Local Government Area, in Umuege Village, Amawbia, the Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday freed a kidnapped victim.

According to a statement issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command spokesperson, the rescue came after a fierce pursuit and tactical placement of police officers from the Central Police Station in Awka.

After learning of the victim’s kidnapping at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Ikenga said the agents confronted the attackers.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed today, April 23, that a kidnapped victim was rescued and returned safely to Umuege Village, Amawbia, Awka. The victim has been debriefed for any appropriate action, he said.

“This followed a hot chase and strategic positioning by police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, after receiving information about the abduction of the victim at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

“This forced the criminals, who were operating in an unmarked Sienna vehicle, to abandon the victim at Umunya along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway and flee the scene.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident and that further updates would be provided as necessary.
